Fair Trade
Fair Trade, different than Fairtrade, is a general sustainability term referring to a handful of meanings: ethical trade, traceable products, or community-source focus. “Fair Trade” is not a protected term, so there are no third party audits on company’s fair trade claims, but typically companies have at the bare minimum some level of transparency in their supply chain when using this term on their finished products. This also differs from Direct Trade, which is typically the ‘most fair,’ and fair trade is certainly a stronger label than non-traceable (or no sustainability labels for that matter).
