Vegan
Vegan products abstain from the use of any animal product or any animal biproduct (like milk). Where there is some gray area is whether or not the product is produced on shared equipment that processes animal biproducts. If a dark chocolate is produced on chocolate that also produces milk chocolate, it will state, “may contain traces of milk” in the ingredients. You will quickly see there is no direct animal biproducts in the product’s composition, but there may be trace parts per million (ppm) of dairy present from producing on shared equipment. Some vegan connoisseurs are okay if a chocolate may have trace ppm of dairy, but some other vegan consumers are more strict in that they will require the product to be completely free of any animal biproduct with 0ppm.
