Single Origin Chocolate: India

India imports a larger quantity of cocoa than it produces, although craft chocolate makers are exporting Indian Cacao and crafting unique single origin chocolate. Despite the coutry’s vast size, only certain regions with the proper climate are able to product the precious crop. Indian cacao was introduced to these regions in the early 1960’s, and today can be often found cultivated alongside other crops such as coconut or arecanut in mixed gardens. The beans types typically grown are either Criollo or Forastero, although Trinitario and some other hybrid beans can be found in smaller farming regions throughout the country.

India

India is found North of the Indian Ocean, but is home to only select regions suitable for growing cocoa. French Broad is now collaborating via Direct Trade with a farm in India, offering both a pure dark, as well as a Chai Masala mixed blend, which pairs beautifully with the Indian Cacao.
