Bixby Chocolate's Story and Philosophy
Bixby Chocolate is a women-owned and family-run company established in 2011 by the talented Kate McAleer, who is joined by her mother Donna in the daily operations of the business. The name Bixby comes from Kate’s great-great-grandparents, who hailed from New England and carried the surname Bixby. As Maine’s first bean-to-bar chocolate factory, Bixby Chocolate proudly crafts its delicious products in a historic former ice plant located on the vibrant working waterfront of Rockland, Maine, where the rich history and scenic beauty of the area infuse each bite with a sense of place and passion.

Crafting Excellence
All Bixby products are made in a historic ice plant that is 125 years old, located on a marina in Rockland, Maine. Bixby is gradually restoring this building. Kate personally sources high-quality organic cocoa beans from Caribbean countries such as the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Belize, and Guatemala, where she has met the farmers who grow these beans. Bixby Chocolate is innovative, producing its own chocolate straight from the cocoa bean and offering a range of products that includes new bean-to-bar chocolate bars, chocolate bonbons, chocolate nibs, and chocolate-covered coffee beans.
