Single Origin Chocolate: Cuba

Cuba is traditionally known for its production of cane sugar & tobacco, but had the cocoa crop introduced dating as far back as 1540, which saw its first ‘boom’ in 1771. The eastern provinces of Cuba provide the optimal climate for growing these beans, and continues to progress to this day, as the geographical location provides ideal elevation and temperatures for the crops to be grown. After the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959, the country sought out to diversify its agriculture further, and cocoa production has since been on the rise within the country. Although as of October 2018, the lasting US Embargo on Cuba prevents importing cocoa (along with many more products), but due to such, the island has to sell to Europe and Asia, resulting in less profits and higher costs.

Cuba

Located just south of the states, Cuba is restricted to export its cocoa crop to Europe and Asia (per above). World Wide Chocolate offers the Pralus single-origin Cuba chocolate bar, but it may not be around for much longer, Pralus himself states, “This may be your last chance to try Cuban chocolate made in Europe because of a ban on cocoa bean exportation from Cuba. Pure shame, as this chocolate will surprise you. Close your eyes and think of Cuba, coffee, cigars, and rum…” Explore this Cuban chocolate today, while you still can!
