Madécasse was started by Peace Corp volunteers who worked in Madagascar. Because of their love for the Madagascar people they wanted to find a way to help long term. What they decided to do is start an artisan chocolate manufacturing company based in Madagascar. They purchased the cocoa beans from local farmers and paid them fairly. Moreover, by making the chocolate in the country they were able to employ and train locals. This created four times the impact of standard Fair Trade cocoa.
